How do I prevent Hair Loss? And what is the most effective Approach?
There are a multitude of ways to prevent hair loss, but the most effective approach is to start as early as possible. At my practice, we always tell patients it’s easier to preserve the hair you already have than to try to restore hair that you lost or don’t have.
What we offer!
For this reason, we offer a comprehensive plan that includes medical treatments, such as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP hair therapy) and low-level light therapy, along with nutritional supplementation. A lot of people frequently ask, “Who’s a good candidate for hair loss procedures?” and the answer is anyone can be a candidate, starting as early as their teenage years and extending throughout their entire lives. Most people don’t notice visible thinning until they have lost 30 to 50% of the hair in a given area, meaning they can maintain completely thick hair for quite a long time before it becomes visibly thinner.
In our office, we offer hair loss prevention procedures such as stem cell therapies like Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), Exosomes, and ACell treatments, all of which are quick and simple office visits. The duration of these appointments typically last between one and one-and-a-half hours. We typically recommend regular PRP treatments (at least 3 sessions minimum), and they can be spaced out usually as far as six months to a year apart, but it is dependent on the individual. We assess each case carefully to come up with a proper and personalized plan for you.
What should I expect in the office?
We assess every patient who comes into the Wise Institute for Hair Restoration for possible candidacy for DHT blockers such as finasteride or dutasteride. We may also recommend oral minoxidil alongside pharmacotherapy. In addition, we also recommend low-level light therapy, specifically with our non-surgical, FDA-approved LaserCap device, and suggest some sort of nutritional supplementation as part of the treatment plan.
It’s so incredibly gratifying when patients come back for their follow-up visit, most commonly around six months after their initial treatment, and share positive feedback like, “My hairdresser says my hair looks and feels thicker,” or “My friends can’t believe how good my hair looks!” They carry themselves a little higher, with more confidence and no longer feel insecure about their hair and appearance, which makes me so happy to see.
How Soon Is Too Soon For Treating Hair Loss?
One thing I would definitely recommend for hair loss prevention is early intervention. So if you’re starting to notice signs of hair loss or it’s becoming something that bothers you, come in, let’s take a look, and discuss your options. There are many non-surgical solutions we can explore before it becomes a more serious issue, so prevention really is key for any hair loss plan.
